Have you ever felt like you just wanted to quit everything? Lately, I’ve been going through phases in life where one point I am hella motivated and ready to take on the world, then the next I just want to cry and I am completely over everything…….
I know I am not alone when it comes to feeling like this, everyone has come across a period in their lives when they lose that momentum. Losing motivation happens to everyone but it is solely up to us if we stay uninterested and unmotivated. There will always come a time when you are just flat out tired! Tired of remaining positive through difficult situations, tired of “working hard”, tired of the ups and downs, tired of waiting on your moment, just tired of life PERIOD!
What separates successful people from unsuccessful people is their MINDSET, they understand that success is inevitable (whatever your definition of success is) so they don’t let small failures affect them – something I am still working on.
Here are a few things you should do when you are not feeling motivated:
Give yourself a break
Sometimes we get so overwhelmed with life that everything starts to break us down emotionally and physically. Take a break and self-assess yourself and your situation. Take this time to think rationally not emotionally, don’t factor in what did and did not work out… but forward thinking of what you need to do to get to the next level. Don’t forget to reflect on what you have already accomplished, for me, thinking about how far I’ve come in the last few years is motivation within itself because if I can get here now, I can get even farther the next 2-5 years if I stay motivated. GET IT?
Clear your head from negative things
This can consist of people, thoughts or anything that makes you feel “off.” Have you ever read a self-help book? I’ve been deep into them lately, it may sound cliche but they work, at least for me anyway. Have a mentor? Give them a call. Have a good friend you can vent to and they tell you what you NEED TO HEAR and not what you want to hear? CALL THEM! Whatever it takes for you to get a clear mind and a fresh start. Sometimes it takes someone telling you about yourself (with good intentions)so you can re-evaluate what’s been going on. The good thing about life is it is never too late to start a new chapter, master your mind and control your thinking…
Reiterate your goals and ask yourself why they are important to you
Finding your’ “why” is very important. It will remind you why you’re trying to accomplish something in the first place.
Write down daily affirmations to yourself
Replace self-criticism with self-correction, sometimes we are too hard on ourselves and these affirmations remind us of what we are capable of doing.
Last Remarks
Don’t forget to celebrate small victories! It is important to pay homage to the hard work you have done thus far. Often times, we become too focused on making big accomplishments that we tend to forget that baby steps are necessary before you can walk.
